New Directions

People come, people go.
I've heard that saying, there are over 6 billion people in this world, but all that matters is one?
A significant change in opinion has washed over me over the last year, graduated to a new city, new life, right? The mindset is to make as many friends as possible, 'network', party hard.
Its all in efforts to dispel the loneliness.
For the most part, people need people.
Isn't that so weak?

When people go to parties, what do they want out of it? To meet people and possibly hook up? Just add to the friend count on facebook?
When I go, I guess I can categorize it under 'whatever I can get'.
Thinking I don't mind making new friends, more is always merrier.

Recently, the more I meet the more lonely I feel.
Its easy to be friendly and fake with anyone; these acquaintances mean nothing in the long run.
I had decided to 'lower my standards' due to urging of my friends if I ever had hopes of any type of relationship with a boy.
It helped open up, but after a few months I've come to the realization that maybe I'm just wasting my time with people I don't reciprocate with.
It makes me wonder: why are there so many people, but it seems like none of them are meant for me?
The probability of Girl A liking Guy B is not too low.
But the probability of Guy B reciprocating those feelings for Girl A... well that's another issue.
And vice versa.
I feel like it will never happen for me.
I've had the urge to reach out and draw my existing friends closer and turn acquaintances into actual friendships.
Wouldn't it be so nice to know that someone is always there?
Unconditional care.
I've learned that life doesn't just give you what you want. If you so desire something, its up to you to achieve it.
And so frustrating when these attempts are met with failure.
The one time I developed true interest in one guy, it ended in more than failure. I know my feelings weren't pure, I just loved the idea of him.
More recently, my attempt in reconnecting with someone I decided I want to be more close to me was met with a less than lukewarm response.
Why can't I have the only few people I care about?

I've realized that as an individual, I cannot accept everyone, for I have standards. Perhaps the bitchiest and most selfish thing I have ever said, but I know it goes for a lot of other people too.
I remembered why my standards were so high in the first place,
Its unhealthy and unreasonable to want everything I can't have, but I would rather end up alone than settle for anything less. That would be like living a lie.

At times I crave closeness to people, other times I'm glad to be by myself because I'm easily sickened by people.
Before I was fine with keeping a distance, but as of late I hunger for more.
With every new acquaintance, I analyze the potential and the people of interest aren't interested and the ones of no interest are interested.
What a bitch thing to say.
Do I not feel interest because it already exists one way?
Maybe.
There is a lot of conflict, a lot of thought.

And it just keeps me up, night after night.

Top Ten Wanted Men

So I decided to compile a list of my favourite 10 celebrity men into one list of hot awesomeness. Included in the list are actors, musicians, models, whatever goes really.

Colin Farrell

My favourite Irish actor, Colin Farrell is undeniably a sexy beast. His trademark eyebrows and bad boy reputation gets me everytime! I only watched Alexander for him... as well as Miami Vice and In Bruges.

James Franco

His performance in Tristan and Isolde definitely won me over. He was also pretty cute in Pineapple Express. Although I think the age is finally starting to show on his face, he is still handsome and looks best clean shaven.

G Dragon

A Korean superstar extraordinaire and main act of Big Bang, Kwon Jiyong is cute and charismatic at the same time. He's not afraid to try different styles and his confidence allows him to pull off almost anything including platinum blonde hair, which makes me admire him even more <3. He has some serious singing and rapping skills too, and going solo recently just proves that he can last in the entertainment industry.

Zac Efron

My heart was his as soon as I laid eyes on him in High School Musical with those stunning blue eyes and sandy hair. I watched him grow up into a man over the years and he definitely looked super great in 17 Again. To all those people out there who continuously bash him and call him a fag or girl or whatever, they can all go look in the mirror because I'm sure they cannot compare!

David Beckham

I don't know anything about soccer, and David Beckham is probably the closest I'll get to the sport. Although he's already married (ugh) that does not take away from his hotness quotient one bit! His sculpted body and masculine face is perfection.

Luke Worrall

This platinum blonde supermodel is already taken by Kelly Osbourne (another major UGH), but I can still dream right? He's closer to my age anyways ;). His look can be androgynous at times and his elfin features are very well defined. LOVE his lip piercing too. He's modeled for a ton of designers, Marc Jacobs being my favourite.

Johnny Knoxville

This man has made me laugh countless times in all the Jackass movies and episodes. Although already a family man, his youthful spirit has not suffered. His smile is super cute and he is a fine specimen of a man - manly face, manly body. ;)

Nicholas Hoult

He first caught my eye in Skins, and I just recently saw him again in Clash of the Titans. His charming personality and piercing blue eyes are just ~too much to resist~. He has that slight daredevil/bad boy look to him when he smirks which is just too cute! Although that's his role in Skins, I think he's a much more mature and reserved person in real life. I haven't gotten around to watching "A Single Man" but I'm sure his role in it just makes everything better.

Shia Labeouf

Not necessarily the most attractive on this list, but his witty charm and charisma definitely make him close to number one in my heart! If he wasn't in Transformers, it wouldn't be half as good as it is.

Jared Leto

Lead singer of 30 Seconds to Mars and sometimes actor, Jared Leto is still looking fine for his age.

✎ Summer Clothing List ✎

So now that I've FINALLY completed my exams and have made the trek back to my hometown, I can finally relax and shift my mind onto my big summer plans! I'm going to look for a job asap, and with the money I make I can afford a new summer wardrobe! Here are my top 10 wants:

. High rise denim Shorts

. Another pair of shorts! Either white denim, or high waisted double breasted buttons, loose swing types, etc.

. American Apparel

. I don't know the correct word for these shoes, but they are inspired by mens formal shoes... and they're lace up and usually black.

.loose crop top

. Interesting jacket - look for lace details, shoulder details, etc. Leather jacket is tooo worn.

. Black harem pants/capris/shorts. Mango has some nice ones out this season - note to self: ask friend for employee discount! ;)

1. Bathing suit! I want either a one piece with funky cutouts or a cute bandeau two piece with mis-matched tops and bottoms. However if I opt for a two piece I better get crackin on attaining that beach body. I absolutely LOVE the bodysuit the Brown Eyed Girls wear in their video, "Abracadabra." Paired with orange heels is absolutely HOT.

LG Fashion Week

I had the opportunity to volunteer at LG Fashion week for the Ryerson show a few weeks ago.
I'm not going to do a full review and I'm obviously going to support my own school so it may be slightly biased.
The Ryerson show showcased Sheila Lam's 'Revelation', Angelene Fenuta 'Litis', Freda Audrey Tam's 'Service Electro' and Jennifer Allison's Walking Tall.

I must say my favourite was the menswear line by Freda Audrey Tam, the looks were sharp, military and bold. I was liking the addition of the nerd glasses too ;)

I wasn't too sure on the whole cuisine concept and the interactions with the models could have been more practiced.
Overall it was an exciting experience and I felt pretty pumped to be part of it!
I never regret volunteering at fashion shows because its always a constant reminder of the excitement and glamour I get to look forward to in my future career.

Goodbye for now!

NADA Spring 2010 3D Fashion Show

I had the privilege of watching Nada's 3D fashion show at Scotiabank Theatre this past Wednesday.
To start off, the idea itself of a fashion show video, let alone a 3D one already garnered my attention and struck me as being extremely innovative. However creative, I personally thought the execution itself could have been done a lot better.

The video simulated video games such as Mortal Kombat, where a character is chosen then outfitted in one of Nada's newest pieces. In addition to that, the main character (the "Red Warrior") got to choose a makeup look, the background scene, as well as from a variety of weapons.

There were three stages of fighting, with the Red Warrior, who is the face of the campaign battling with the White Warrior I believe. The 3D effects were successful in the beginning, but I got the feeling that the production people started to run out of time near the end as the effects became of poorer quality and had less impact.

I think there should have been more thought put into the action sequences, since the fighting looked rather amateur and the shots were often just set in landscape view and did not do all of that fast-paced cut scenes from various angles that action movies usually employ. I think that if the camera zoomed in at certain times to show the clothing detail or did a slow motion before a hard hit that would have worked out better and drawn more attention to the collection, rather than the cheesy battling.
The ending came rather abrupt, with the win of the Red Warrior, which then cut to scrolling credits.

I think the whole concept for the video could have been developed much further instead of just one fashionable fembot showdown. Technology and futuristic themes are obvious, but perhaps incorporating what the point of the battle was or what it represented in a beginning title screen may have further rounded out the video.

Overall, I applaud NADA for brainstorming such an inventive and different way to show a collection through a storyline, although there were a few kinks that still needed to be worked out. The thought of really going in vein of the technology flow and making the video widely available is important in today's rapid paced society, and her designs may reach a wider audience.

Warped Tour 2010

So for the first time ever, I think I'm going to Warped Tour !!! I've wanted to go in the past but issues kept coming up that sidetrackked me from going.

I was extremely excited, but when I was looking up the 2010 lineup of bands I couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed. Maybe its because I'm not as avid a post-hardcore follower I used to be, but the list seems rather... lacking.
The only performances I'm looking forward to is Breathe Carolina, All American Rejects, and Mayday Parade.

I'm moderately excited for Nevershoutnever and Alesana. Is it just me or does the selection seem rather lacklustre?
Shmeh. I guess I got to make the most of it!
WOOHOO!

$tudent$

It's something that is always on my mind.
The key to happiness perhaps?
It seriously decides your future and career path.
What students especially are always in need of.
I'm talking about money.
cold, hard cash.
What does a poor university student have to do to obtain this powerful medium of exchange?
Or conserve it for the matter?
Living in a big city on my lonesome for the first time, I've been forced to get creative with what I do to save a few here and there, and I'm here to share some of the tips I've used from living in the big city for the past few months.
Cheap? Undeniably. Ingenious? yes.

1.Transportation. Toronto is a pretty big place with many interesting places to go. From the Bata Shoe Museum to Koreatown to Yorkville, most are not in walking distance and cabbing is not the way to go. Therefore, take the ttc. But after the prices rose about a month ago, it's forced us poor students to get creative. The obvious is to drop a bunch of small change so it looks like you've given enough. But if traveling with a group of people, all pitch in enough change for one person. Have that one person go down and through, and get enough transfers for everyone. Then they will come back up and voila~ enough transfers for everyone to take the streetcar! :) Another method that works with a big group is that you can buy a day pass, and after that day is done you can scratch out the day you're going to go out next and just hide the previous scratched out date with your finger as you go through. This method can be done many times over, but eventually you'll need to find a way to cover up the already uncovered dates with something like gold sharpie... still experimenting and will get back to you on that.

2. Dining out. The city is a melting pot of diverse foods and tasty restaurants. Firstly, I want to say I greatly disprove of the DINE AND DASH. Please don't, even if you're desperate. One thing I recommend if you're strapped for cash but suuper hungry is all you can eat sushi. It is pretty affordable during lunch, averaging around just over $10. Eat as much as you can, maybe sneak a roll or two in a folded napkin into your purse if no one is looking ;) Always be on the lookout for freebies. If you take a walk around a food court, there are always places giving out free food. For example, Bourbon st grill often gives out small samples, and Baskin Robbins is always doing that as well if you go ask for it.

3. Clothing. So many pretty clothes, so little money. It doesn't help that I'm constantly walking by stores like American Apparel or Forever 21 on the way to class -_-. What you can do to curb your shopping expenditures is making a list of the it items your REALLY WANT for the season. For all of the other things you want, feel free to do all the browsing you want. Don't hesitate to try on the clothes you want to buy, even multiple times on separate occasions. This way you'll get used to how the clothing looks on you, and you feel like you've already worn it and the impulse to buy it dies a little. Swapping/sharing with your friends' clothes is also a good idea to increase variety within your wardrobe while being on a budget. Also, don't hesitate to check up on sites like kijiji.ca for cheaper deals on already worn clothing. Try to avoid buying at regular price unless your reallly love it!

4. Entertainment. Everyone knows that most entertainment doesn't come free these days. Most friday nights are consisted of hitting up the liquor store, then partying it up at a club or bar. At my dental appointment a few weeks back, my dentist recommended going to places with happy hour to get drunk for cheap. Hah. If going out to a club or something, try avoiding the ones with cover fees and try to get some boys to buy you a drank ;). Don't necessarily need booze to get ya buzzed? Fill a water bottle with chocolate milk and tell everyone it's Bailey's ;) Instead of watching movies in theatre, try online on sites like ninjavideo or watch-movies.net. Go to art galleries like the AGO when they are free.

5. Make-up. My new favourite thing is going into Sephora and trying on their makeup. The selection is infinite and all shimmery palettes and creamy lipsticks are just begging to be swatched and sampled! Instead of buying to achieve that stained lip or glossy lid look, I just achieve it in the store and go to class or go out at night without having spent a dime on makeup! :)

6. The dreaded school fees. If you're not utilizing OSAP, then DO! Student access grants and Queen Elizabeth II scholarship definitely helped me out for my first year.

7. Gym. A lot of people pay for gym memberships, but use your university gym to get fit. If you have to pay, gym membership holders often get a few guest passes, so just nab one. Also, gyms are often giving out ten day trials for their gym, so don't hesitate to make good use of it. If worse comes to worse, go to an apartment building and run up the stairs. Many simple exercises can be done without going to a gym.

8. Birthday presents. So many friends= so many birthdays= so many presents= brokeassness. The best thing is to make your own sentimental present that is cheap and meaningful. A win-win situation! Only if the presentation is good though. Some ideas is to make a nice photo montage of all your happy fun crazy moments. Baking birthday cakes are good too. Burn a CD of songs you've had great memories from, make one of those coupon books (i.e. "1 free massage from yours truly"),paint them a portrait of themselves (a real hit but only think about it if you posess artistic skill) or whatever floats his/her boat. Or if you're a bit more crafty think about knitting a big, fashionable wooly round scarf or even screening a very personalized graphic tee! Take them out to see a local show, belly dancing lessons, whatever piques their interest and can be an opportunity to bond more.

MAKING MONEY.
1. Get a job. DUH.

2. Get a boyfriend. You're not making money, but he will save you LOADS! And if he isn't... well. Look elsewhere. I mean, it's only good manners to pay for a girlfriend's meals, movie tickets, etc. ;)

3. As I previously mentioned, kijiji is a great place for canadians to sell their stuff they don't really use. I've put a bunch of old clothes I don't really wear or want up and I do get a bite here and there.

4. Walking around campus, keep your eyes peeled for advertisements calling for participants in social experiments and the like. There is usually compensation that comes in the form of cold, hard, c-a-s-h.

5. Investing and stock market. I personally don't do it, but I've heard a loooot of good things so maybe give it a try?

6. Pretend you're a hobo and sit on a street corner on a sunny day and wait for the coins to come in rolling. Uh, just kidding.

7. Use those brains! Offer to tutor peers if they're suffering, and a lot of people will pay money for your lecture notes you so dutifully typed out while they were sleeping.

Here's a pic of me and the object of my desires:

I get paper, yo.
Do you?

GOODBYE FOR NOW,

Jessicat.

Kelly Osbourne is finally skinny!

I was browsing through soompi and came across a thread on Kelly at NY fashion week.
She is looking damn good! Fit body, classy hair and makeup, dress accentuating her new, slim curves. I wonder if she lost all that weight in a healthy manner...

Before:

After:

skinny bitch!

Wow now I have even more reasons to envy her... now she looks like she belongs together with hubby supermodel Luke Worrall, although we all know he actually belongs to me.

Sigh, platinum blonde perfection. It is undeniable that they look great together, I bet Kelly can't wait to walk down the aisle in a wedding dress that shows off her new body...

New year= new hair?

So since it's the new year, I decided to make a ~change~ not only from the inside, but on the outside too!
I originally wanted to get the same haircut as ulzhang Park Yonghee:

but I ended up with more of a Victoria Beckham type style, which I didn't really want :/
but now I'm accepting my new length, the shortest it's ever been since I was maybe in third grade?
Here's the before and after.
