vintage shopping on a saturday afternoon

Finally back at home for christmas, and it feels wonderful!
I just want to stay and hibernate here for a month and do nothing all day except for visit some off the wall kitschy shops and drink bubble tea with friends. And have mini photoshoots of course ;)
Today me and HSL went out for lunch at this super old place uptown called Harmony Lunch. It was decorated in an olden breakfast diner style and the people were old to match. This one asshole granny kept shooting us death glares, she's probably never seen a camera before.

Afterwards, we went to a huge vintage store at an undisclosed location. It was my first time there, and it was pretty sick. The location was huge and there were many little nooks full of odd knick knacks. They had everthing from old photo albums to vintage cameras to fox fur mufflers.
She brought along her DSLR and we took some pictures! It's our little secret ;)

Closet Revival

I've been meaning to revamp my outfits for a while now, except for the fact that I've been rather low on moolah :(
Now that I finally got a job, I can spendddd and contribute to the economy! (and my wardrobe)
Here's the top ten things I want to add to my closet:
1. Black boyfriend blazer. I've been wanting one of these for half a year now, but I haven't managed to find one that looks nice on me/within a reasonable budget!

2. Moccasins/booties. The cold Canadian winter is approaching, and I need cute yet functional shoes to get me from res to classes !

3. Doc Marten combat boots. Not the ones with the intense rubber soles, but ones that look like this:

4. Winter Jacket! Preferably one that won't make me look like a marshmallow, I'm thinking of maybe a TNA fur hooded parka. I never really appreciated the look of them until I started working there. ha. ha.

5. Silky dressy top. A must for interviews, parties, evenings out. A multi purpose comfortable garment I can just slip on and goooo
6. Boyfriend shirt. Something comfortable and loose I can just belt at the waist or pair with a cardigan.
7. Floaty/high waisted skirt, preferably one with a little pouf since I already have a spandexy type black one. This item is so trend, but a girl can never have enough of these now staple items.

8. Party Dress. I've had my eye on a metallic brocade type dress from H&M for $50, but I don't really want to shell out the money. I couldn't find the look on their website but this skirt is of the same pattern and material.

Alternately, those black lace dresses have caught my eye as well. Like this one from Aritzia.

9. Wollen sweater, preferably with those Peruvian-esque patterns on them. Again, need to look for winter appropriate clothing.

10. Patterned tights! I already own quite a few pairs from polka dot to bow pattern, but I want more. Maybe a nice floral/rose pattern, lace pattern, or heart pattern to add to my arsenal?

And that sums up my top ten must haves for the beginning of november! ;)
I know I prolly can't afford to acquire all these lovely items, but a girl can try!

Goodbye for now,

Nuit Blanche

What are my thoughts on Scotiabank's Nuit Blanche 09?
To be honest, it was slightly disappointing.
It was my first time going, and after a huge meal from Salad King my Ry fashion buds and I set off on our night time journey.
We were pretty excited at first, but had a bit of difficulty locating some exhibits.
We went to the funhouse exhibit first, which we thought had funhouse mirrors and the like, but were greeted with old people dressed in spandex in seizure-inducing patterns and colours. They were wailing and chanting and it was quite freaky. The people who came out to watch just stood around them looking rather dumbfounded.
This was the typical reaction to most of the exhibits, such as the Ice Queen.
I am one to appreciate art - I actually like trying to understand the message the artist is trying to convey through whatever mediums. However, most of the stuff at Nuit Blanche was a bit too much of the same, bewildering act most people cannot appreciate.
A few cool things were the Rabbit Balloon and the fashion showing at the Chang School, but I am partial to that since I helped set up the Jocelyn Teng exhibit : )
Her structural canvas pieces were really amazing, and working with her to set up the mannequines was a great opportunity, she was so nice :) They were also showing Lucian Matis and another designer's pieces. I just have to say, Lucian Matis is definitely an attractive looking guy! He's a Ryerson fashion alumni, and very talented too! I saw him again today when attending FGI's Fashion Next event : )

Anyways, here are some pictures from that night :)

Sorry for the rather late update, this event happened October 3rd.

Skins

It's been a while since my last post since university started and all. I also kinda forgot my google account username/password combo too haha.

So I came home for the thanksgiving weekend and saw my friends yesterday.
We made a korean meal and had pumpkin pie for dessert. We also tried to make shirley temples but they failed miserably :(

We started watching this british tv show called Skins.

It's about teenage drama, issues, partying, and other exciting stuff like that.
Also contains quite a lot of nudity .. oooh la laaa ; )
What caught my attention was the main guy.. wow he's so incredibly good looking!
His name on the show is Tony Stonem and his real name is Nicholas Hoult. His character is the confident, scheming bad boy type ;)
Photo for reference:

DAYUMMMMMM SEXYYY
The only thing about him that's a bit odd is his really defined eyebrows, but I think I'll look past that; his blue eyes and face structure well makes up for it <3.
I usually can't stand british accents but we actually watched 5 episodes in a row. .
Maybe I'll add this to my very limited list of dramas I actually watch, 90210 being the only other one.

GOODBYE FOR NOW,
and Happy Thanksgiving!

New Cell Phone?

I have the green light to get a new cell phone while I'm here in China, and I really want a cute LG cyon Lollipop or Ice Cream!
The Ice Cream model came out first, and I was really attracted to the sweet pastel shades and LED display on the front of the phone. The CF with Big Bang and Kim Tae Hee was also very suiting to the phone and cute to match.
I heard of the Lollipop version through 2EN1's debut and collaboration with Big Bang, and me and all my friends were so into the whole disco/groovy concept and song.

UPDATE:
Yes, I got the LG ice cream because the Lollipop wasn't available in HK
I love it!
The only cons is that it sometimes freezes when receiving/sending text messages.

Me posing with my ice cream ~ (my face looks kinda wierd... )

Don't Wear Heels on the Train Track

Took advantage of the sunny summer day and went to the park with friends on a whim.
Every step was treacherous, and in the end the jagged rocks got the best of me [as seen in the bottom picture].

Ignorance in Art.

The world of art is 98% pretentious assholes.

This rant for today was inspired when I was scrolling through the a little site called lookbook.nu. You know, the one where people post their fashionable outfits and they get hyped? Today I stumbled upon the lookbook forum under the 'photography pet peeve' thread.
There, I found countless accusations; claims of what is photography and what isn't photography. The endless discriminatory ways people referred to hipsters and wannabes just jumping onto the bandwagon, thinking that they themselves are so much more enlightened than the majority of the unoriginal trash toting a dslr.
Seriously, I began to feel a little sick reading the comments. Here are a few :
(I don't mean to intentionally target the people who wrote it, which is why it remains anonymous. I don't even know who wrote it, so there. I am also in no way dissing lookbook, it is my favourite site.)

"I have some people in my school who take photos of graffiti-ed walls, turn it black and white and maybe edit the contrast a little bit, then call it photography. It's disgusting and annoying. Plus they get recognised as photographers cause of that."

"People who call themselves photographers because they take a few snapshots and can use photoshop !"

"It also annoys me tremendously that those people are award winning photographers, and I look at their pics, and I just think to myself, a color blind kid with Down Syndrome and Epilepsy could've shot this!"

"I hate it when people try and be artistic or poetic."

Seriously.
There were some voices of reason, but for the most part the angry little tirades were relentless.
What makes these accusers so much better? That's what I want to know.
Okay, so maybe these people can take a more professional looking picture next to the next myspace attempt, but to comment with such disrespect and ignorance is pretty much crossing the line. Sure sometimes a few photography attempts are maudlin and laughable, but that gives nobody the right to crow over it and rip it to pieces. Everyone starts somewhere, and they will eventually get better if they try hard enough.
To quote #1: why can't someone call it photography? It may not be the most original, but if it is aesthetically pleasing or mood inducing why shouldn't the person who took it get the credit they deserved?
Quote #2: I don't know about you, but in my opinion real photographers do exactly that.
Quote #3: The fact that 'a color blind kid with Down Syndrome and Epilepsy could've shot it' is irrelevant. The fact that the viewer came to that conclusion however, is. Why do people think they know so much about art? In my opinion, art to one person may not be art to another because it holds a different meaning or triggers a different reaction. The wonderful thing about art is that its open to interpretation, and should never have a definitive label or preconceived notion about it.
Quote #4: Uhm, sorry but this comment was a little too much. Is the person who wrote the comment trying to say that an artistic/poetic nature is inborn? If people are not good at art, should they just give up all attempts at trying to create something inspiring? Any artist or poet out there did TRY in order to achieve what they have done. You are just laughing because maybe you can pull off the deep artist facade more convincingly than the other, because inside we are all the same people.

This brings me to the next point: there is no originality. Hipsters and the like get flamed for wearing AA hoodies, skinnies, plaid, shutter shades, etc. or so the stereotype goes. They have no 'originality' and are just 'followers'. Even if they are, why does this make people sick and disdainful? They want to look a certain way, so do you. The only difference is that you value individuality higher than them, so you stray from anything popular in the mainstream. But has it hit anyone that no matter what they do, they will always be copying someone else? The fact that they try to be some elusive artistic 'individual' is already a well established stereotype, which makes them no different from the other gangs of labels.
Ignorance and arrogance.
There is no definitive form of 'good art' and 'bad art', everything is subjective.
Out of all people, these people should know.
Of course it is undeniable that some photography just comes out bad, but to go and say that flower, sunset, sky, etc photography is generalizing and demeaning a certain type, which is just unacceptable.

Well I've exhausted my rage for now, sorry for the poor flow/switching of tenses, I just wanted to get my point out.

GOODBYE FOR NOW

Aa

These days I've been seeing A LOT of those American Apparel Alphabet Tees, which can be found here:

There is just something appealing about that bold, Helvetica typeface. . . I think some letters look better than others. For example, I think the Jj, Ll and Ee are just not as visually pleasing as the Tt, Aa or Zz.
Maybe that's just me, what do you think?
When buying the shirt, how do people choose what letter they want? I know I would be standing in the store for a good fifteen minutes before I could choose between all twenty six options.
Maybe by name initial? Or just plain visual appeal?

These Tees are nice but I don't understand as to how they got so popular. Because of the name tag? It seems like anything American Apparel gets instant hype. First it was their unisex hoodies that are now owned by every single hipster out there, then the colour block jersey dresses or the swing skirts. I don't know how they do it.

Here are some pictures for those of you clueless as to what I'm talking about

Insomnia

Been catching up with my Kpop lately, and although this song isn't the most recent - I think it's the BOMB : )
Insomnia by Wheesung, check it outt.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLYg8rwdihM
At first I heard the original by Craig David
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m555jHRMEo
and I wasn't that into it, but then I saw the live for the Korean version, and all of a sudden I was really feeling it! Haha.
They have really similar voices, they should do a duet or something.

Also 2EN1's debut song has some pretty good beats
Fire - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Dmt2OxP0dw
I'm a CL fan; saw her performance on the yg family tour concert thing and I thought she was so good - distinct rapping.
Pretty sure they'll be as popular as Big Bang given the time.

Anywayss, redyed my hair yesterday with L'Oreal Colour Rays, the streaks were fading already -_-

I'll upload a better picture later.

Alexander the Gorgeous

Okay so yesterday on whim I decided to watch Alexander via some asian streaming site.
And holy moly.
The video quality was horrible; it kept blurring, pausing, going out of sync.
I didn't really know what was going on: why Angelina Jolie hated the one eyed father so much, what exactly they were they fighting for all this time, and what the old narrator guy had to do with anything.
All I understood was: Colin Farrell and Jared Leto are the sexiest men alive.
Seriously.
Oh. My. Lord.

I listen to 30 Seconds to Mars, but I never knew Jared Leto was also an actor!  Although his acting did not really go past intense stares...which I enjoyed very much.
And Colin Farrell... well no explanation is needed.
 Ahhhhh <3>
Too bad he played a gay/bisexual character.
Well my bursts of fangirlism is now satisfied, so I'll be peacing out now.

First Post? Yayers

So this is my very  first post on my very first blog!
I should get a medal or something.
Not really sure how things work around here, but how hard can it be to mess up?
Just write a few words, post a few pictures, and there you have it : )
But what words?  Should I talk about my current emotional, philosophical feelings?  Light funny anecdotes about what interesting things happened in my day?  Post long poems of passion and love?
Hmm.
Well.
Here it goes.

Decisions.
One decision has the power to change a whole future, and lately I've been faced with so many.
As of May 1, I received an offer of acceptance to Ryerson University for Fashion Communications.  Now, I worked super hard on my portfolio and actually skipped school with JH to make the trek to t-dot to hand it in, but I never really thought I would make it!
As soon as I walked onto the campus, I felt a desperate desire to go to Ryerson, and I said to myself - if I made it, I would go FO SHO!
I felt so excited, you wouldn't believe.
But now the time came, and before I had the time to react to the acceptance,
[REMOVED]
After I've thought for so long.

Not really the literary genius I was going for, but it will do for a first post.
Blaah.
My eyes are tired.

GOODBYE FOR NOW
